Re-Aligning Schools to a Different UIL Region
Every two years, UIL conducts a realignment of schools based on student enrollment numbers and geographic location. This process may result in schools being moved from one UIL region to another.
Because these changes can impact data and historical records, Region Executive Secretaries must coordinate carefully and follow the correct process in the exact order outlined below.
⚠️ IMPORTANT:
These steps must be followed in this exact order to avoid negatively affecting past and present student entries.
🔁 Realignment Process Overview
Let’s say Brooklyn High School is moving from Region 20 to Region 8. Here's how that transition should be handled:
Step 1: Region Executive Secretary of the NEW Region (Region 8)
The Region Executive Secretary of the region the school is moving into must:
Add the school to their School List.
Include the following required information:
- School Name
- Address
- City, State, Zip Code
- TEA Code
- UIL Conference (e.g., 4A, 5A)

Step 2: Region Executive Secretary of the ORIGINAL Region (Region 20)
Once the school has been added to the new region:
- The Region Executive Secretary of the region the school is moving out of must:
- Update the Region field for each director (teacher) associated with the school to reflect the new UIL region.
- Confirm that all teacher accounts are now linked to the correct region and newly created school record.
✅ Summary
Step | Responsible Party | Action |
---|---|---|
1 | New Region Exec. Secretary | Add the school to the school list with full details |
2 | Original Region Exec. Secretary | Update each teacher’s Region to match the new school region |
✔️ Following these steps in order ensures that historical student entry data remains intact and that directors can continue managing their entries without disruption.
a. From the Home screen, select the Director List tile
b. Make sure you have selected to Show Inactive Directors so that you don’t miss anyone
c. Search for school name (in this example: Brooklyn High School). This will be the list of directors you will need to update.
d. Click the pencil icon to the right of the director’s name to make an update to the director profile.
e. Update the Official UIL Region (and Alternate Region if you know it) to the Region the school will now be in. This will move the directors from the old Region to the new Region.
f. Click the green “Update Profile” button
g. Proceed to the next director at that school.
NOTE: You may want to validate with the Region Executive Secretary of the new region to ensure the updates have happened correctly after completing the first director. If the steps have been followed correctly, the director will no longer be visible in the old region and will be visible in the new region.
Once all of the directors have had their regions updated to the new region, you may go in and delete the school from the school list. Directions can be found here.
